There’s something effortlessly enchanting about downtown Chicago in the summertime—especially when you get to photograph a couple like Aila and Patrick. I was actually in town for another local wedding, but getting to squeeze in this session with these two made my entire trip even more memorable.
Aila and Patrick have been together for a few years now, building their life together in the heart of the Windy City. They’re true downtown dwellers, soaking in everything Chicago has to offer—lakefront walks, city lights, and all the buzz that makes this place feel so alive. We met outside the stunning Fourth Presbyterian Church, one of the city’s most iconic architectural gems. Even though there was construction covering more than half the building, we made the most of it—chasing that soft, dreamy light as blue hour rolled in. What made this session even more special? It turned out to be one of their last moments as just “boyfriend and girlfriend.” Just a week later, these two got engaged!!!!
There was something almost whimsical about this evening- The way they moved so naturally, laughing and fully present with one another—it felt like a quiet celebration before a new chapter officially began. Even among the scaffolding and summer construction chaos, the love between them stood out more than any skyline.
